I'm not surprised. They just seemed to be arse covering measures so they could say "we told you so" if someone got hurt. They could have been useful concesions to help us secure the important issue of access: "No worries, we'll ask before bolting and not swim if you let us in".

Happy to yarn anytime kuu.

I think there are some folks here with local railcorp knowledge... knowing the right people has always been better than knowing lots of 'stuff'.

A rather sad effort from NSW climbers ... or maybe there aren't many serious climbers in NSW ? I'll bet some submissions were from Vic too.

Hi Everyone

Actually Kuu, there are talks under way at the moment that ARE very positive.

These types of things are very sensitive, so I'd ask people to hold off contacting any authorities for the moment. We'll definitely let you know if that is necessary, but don't want to de-rail what is going on at the moment.
Adding to Andrew's post - getting very positive feedback from various authorities and some local climbers are acting on it all and it is looking good, so far. More to come.

For those who did put in submissions, they definitely made a difference. Not to say we might not need to fight the good fight but so far, so good.

I'll post more once we know more.

Agree, it was good to continue the process. It would have been nice if Railcorp had come along too. (I was the one in red fleece in the middle if you didn't pick me out).

cheers,
owain.

Hi all

The Dargan Creek Plan of Management was formally adopted on 12 September 2012 and can be found at: http://www.lpma.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/175359/Dargan_Creek_Reserve_Plan_of_Management.pdf

On a brief review:
- the plan is suitably vague as to whether vehicles will be allowed to drive into the dams cliff car park (section 3.2). At the meeting in Clarence a few months ago, one of the Crown Lands people had indicated they would do this so we could continue to discuss and develop this issue after the Plan was adopted.
- continue to allow swimming (3.3).
- continue to allow climbing (without any requirement to obtain approval to bolt/re-bolt any climbs) (3.4).
- continue to allow guided climbing and canyoning (3.5).

Pretty good outcome, methinks. Thanks again to all those who took time to make a submission.

I had previously applied to be on the Trust that would manage the Reserve, but have recently been informed that because of limited interest no appointments to the Trust have been made at this time. If you are interested in being part of the Trust that manages the Reserve, please contact the Dubbo Crown Lands Office (02 6884 2067) or e-mail dubbocrownlands@lands.nsw.gov.au.

Cheers

Nice work. I had a read through the POM a few days ago. I would agree that the biggest remaining issue to resolve is the access, but my feeling was that the CL people did seem committed to working it out.

I was also pleased to read that they are in the process of considering a composting toilet at the site.

cheers,
owain.

That's good to hear - because there's toilet paper strewn all over the place!
I tried to take my daughter for a walk away from the climbing area - it was just white sheets all over the place! can't people at least pile some dirt on it if they're not willing to dig a decent hole? < /end rant>

How very european!!
Saw the same thing all over Europe.
When i was lamenting this situation very loudly in Font. My mate told me who the culprits might be.
" bloody women, they take a piss wipe themselves and leave the paper. Thats why most of the time there is no shit under the paper"
