I call it ariel pingpong and get intensely nauseated when the first 15 minutes of the news headlines for the day are devoted to a story about a footballer who picked his nose and got sent to the tribunal for it....

Coopers - that's stuff I only dream of (too many Victorians here) - takeaway beer, AUD$1.10 per can. You'd cry though if I told you how much the other stuff was for a nice little baggy...

I would have said "the availability of good vegetarian food" - but the amount of people mentioning steak and meat pies reminds me how hard it is to find a decent meal outside the cities.

So I have to go with - real wilderness, no sign of people. But that means being away from almost everything listed above.
My Mrs read this list and admitted, we're really going to miss living in Europe.

OT but I don't get Chris Lilley. Yes, he's a great writer and actor but what's with the drag and the blackface?
A drag act may be funny but it's just a drag act. If it's a good female part it would be better if played by a good female actor - and there are more than a couple of those about.
Similarly with blackface - that went out with the Black and White Minstrel show. Hey, Hey It's Wednesday got rightly panned when it tried a blackface act and it's pretty hypocritical to let Chris Lilley get away from it.

So why was it ok for A list white amercian Robert Downey Jr to do the very same thing in the Hollywood flick Tropic Thunder that came out in 2008? That was way more full on then the lame Hey Hey skit. Typical hypocritical americans...

Get a sense of humour about it - people have lost the ability to have laugh at each other and take the piss with all the over sensitive PC these days. Some of the funniest shit I've seen is Dave Chapelle impersonating a white guy!

Don't know about that one.
Maybe if there's a point to it it could be justified? But Chris Lilley playing a Tongan comes across as a white guy pretending to be a Tongan. It gets in the road of what might otherwise be great material. Ditto when he drags up.

There is a lot more to impersonating a character than the color of the skin. Chris Lilley's skills are in getting mannerisms, accents and dialogue to match the intended character.

How about the quality movie White Chicks?

Totally agree

Also agree but when he plays women, coloured people I find it embarassing so I have given up watching him.

He's equally cringeful playing white males --- which is why I like it.

PC or not has nothing to do with it - that's just a label to hit someone you disagree wit. I don't find his stuff unfunny because of a social belief; I just don't find it funny and I understand why. His comedy works when you believe in the characters he's playing but , for me, when he plays women and non-euros I don't find his characters believable. Others obviously do find it funny and the thing with sense of humour is that you can't share someone elses on demand.
