I thought he was shit stirring. I also thought it was the only bit of the interview where some reflection of personality came out. Although the rest of the interview could be a reflection of Jamilla's personality for all I know, as I don't know her at all, but I hope not!

It's directed at the people who are using personal attacks on each other instead of staying on topic. It's ok to have a debate on the merits of a film and the content shown, but if someone doesn't agree with you it's not ok to just start abusing them directly instead of actually offering some proof of why your opinion differs.

It'd still be a sandbag at 16 if it was at Nangar...

... & talking of sandbags, from what I have read on this thread, it sounds as if Smitten could receive an award for that!

I want to hear your theory Dunc.

If you don't use sabu's name whilst explaining your theory, it can't be personal abuse, can it?

Phil and Alrob are just under-crotchlings. I reckon that if we niggle enough and have a bit of luck, we might cop a spray from the Chief Groin Pilot himself............which would be something of an acheivement.

So, flogging a dead horse....

Smitten can be got for $15 as a download. I can live with that, and Ed should still get something (probably about the same as for a DVD actually!). So now I've grabbed a copy and watched it.

I actually thought the filming was in many ways better than the polished OS stuff. You could see how hard a lot of the routes were, and I had a better idea of what the holds were like than I do on most of the big name videos. A few shots had holds obscured, but that's climbing.

The soundtrack was meh, but it was low budget so what do you expect. I suspect one of the tracks at least was by a bloke who was involved with Coming at Ya Hyper, but since my copy of that got nicked several years ago I can't confirm.

The BASE jumping I wasn't overly impressed with, having seen quite a few wingsuit videos, but it was OK. The filler bits were generally blah, and felt a bit like emulating various Tropfest finalists (the spade bit in particular). Interviews were a mixed bag, but the Cossey interview was quite fun, particularly the last line.

The main thing is that there was some very cool climbing, and that Ed's still kicking around and getting motivated. Both are reasonably inspiring to get out and do stuff (though my crag-bashing today didn't pay off. Still, 3 or 4 more relatively local places to try to beat rodw to left).

When the film first came out I was very disappointed with it, the trailers had me so psyched up but it didn't meet the hype.
Anyway a watch it again the other day and it was better then I remembered it, I enjoyed it more then when I first saw it plus I knew when to fast forward.

its probably not worth $15 either.
i was disappointed when i got it free with the Rock Mag subscription. Obviously needed to get rid of a lot of copies.

I was the opposite. When I first saw it I had read all the criticism here and wasn't expecting much. It pleasantly surprised me!

My favourite thing about it was that it didn't take itself too seriously (like all true Aussies). I don't watch sport climbing films (particularly US), cos the wankers always take themselves so seriously and hence miss what climbing is all about for me.

There was a film at the Reel Rock Tour in Jan last year, about a couple of snot nosed teenagers working a 2 move boulder problem over a year. They even went to the extreme of simulating the problem in the gym. It made me so ashamed to be associated with them as a climber, that I quit climbing for 6 months!

In contrast, I just read Psycho Vertical by Andy Kirkpatrick's and thoroughly enjoyed it. He's got a wicked British sense of humour and he is always questioning his ability and taking the piss out of himself.

I think that the 'filler bits' everyone has been complaining about actually add to the Australian, make a joke at your own expense, feel.

Best Aussie climbing film I've seen! (Not to say that I won't make a joke at it's expense at this years Goatfest)

went fiishing with ed last night. 3 showers and I still smell like mackeral. Caught a shovel nosed shark, came within a bees dick of being busted for public urination by a cop. His next movie is bitten.

Why should you care what they do? Everyone seems to get something different out of climbing and if that's what they get... I don't think it should impact you? I would certainly never give up something I love as much as climbing because of someone elses styles or approach...

It was a hyperbole, but the statement still stands. There were other factors that led to my hiatus, but those douche nozzles were the opposite of inspirational. They didn't seem to get any enjoyment at all out of the simple process of climbing.

... just the act of mutual masturbation when they sent their 3 move problem!

Your world is black and white. My profiling says you are likely to be a young, male engineer.
Each to their own. Its a big world with room for everybody. I dont get bouldering but found their single minded obsessiveness quite fascinating. They're not forcing you to adopt their ideology so I dont see what your problem is. (Mine is being stuck at work and killing time replying to Chockstone posts)

Congratulations! You can read an online forum. You should become a profiler for the AFP :-P

I also found their obsessiveness quite fascinating, insofar as it was unhealthy, neurotic and out of touch with reality (the same could be said about all styles of climbing when you think about it...)

My profiling from reading your profile (and meeting you) says that you are interested in that aspect of climbing and like to bolt a fair bit, which is fine.

I don't have a problem, I'm just saying that it's inconsistant that people on this forum are getting so stuck into Smitten when it was actually pretty good compared to other stuff out there.
