Not a whinge, just information for the uninformed.

I am taking liberty of a privileged position with this thread posting, though some may consider it in-house spam?

Starting as of Monday 23 May 2016, and given the proliferation of spam lately which for some reason I am finding more tiresome than usual (though I know other Moderators have dealt with similar recently); I thought I'd keep the Chockstone membership up to date regarding some of the behind the scenes activities that we Moderators undertake, as there may be more than the membership realises that happens on a regular basis on this website, ... and we are human with our own life issues to deal with too!

So far this week (and today is only Tuesday, ie only one day into the week), I have disabled 3 spam merchants, and deleted 5 of their posts, plus another 3 posts that were replies to the spam by regular Chockstone members deriding that spam.

If we have the time, we will add to this thread each time we disable/delete, in order to keep our normal membership informed of recent events. Most of our posts will likely be simple notifications of spam cleansing off the site, but it might become more interesting if ever any Chockstone members receive time out, etc.

Without consulting the other Moderators I'd hazard a guess that we collectively average two User ID disablement's, and at least double that number of post deletions each week in order to keep this site a relatively easy to read and informative source of information and discussion of climbing within Australia, Victoria in particular.

How about a SPAM button? If 3 different users click the SPAM button for a first time user, it's gone.

That'd require Michael to write more code. He keeps chockstone running as a public service but doesn't want to invest heaps of time in it.

Part of me is tempted to see if I can't write a migration script from Chockstone to some more supported system like phpBB.

Being relatively techno-numpty myself I have no idea what phpBB is, but have noted that other Internet Forums that I frequent have upgraded in the last couple of years and have good features that didn't give (as far as a base level user like myself is able to distinguish), too many teething problems.

The inability to post pics, the banned suspicious words, along with cropped lengthy trip reports has made this Site much less user friendly in recent times...
