I would like to get this lot back to its owner, rather than have it sitting in our shed...

Other possibilities are trying CragX, or to hand it in at the local police station. You never know, ... it may have been reported as lost/stolen.
No. I am not inferring anything dubious here, as it is obvious that you are trying to get it to its rightful owner.
If they don't claim it after a certain period of time and police attempts to find the owner fail, then you are entitled to have it handed over to you.
