Just wondering if everyone else rappel's/abseils of this?
Would there be any advantage purchasing one of those thick figure 8 abseil devices?

Figure eights twist the rope. I prefer using something like a trango pyramid, lighter and just as easy. Though the heat generated by friction has made we wonder about what damage it may be doing to the caribiner.

Yeah, I rap on an ATC-XP. Use the low friction mode unless I'm on 8mm ropes. Works better than my old Wild Country VC.

cool, I thought the figure 8s may handle the heat better but sounds like they suffer just the same.. Have a fear of melting my rope one day!

You will only melt you rope if you stop after going realy fast

Just dont go fast, twisted ropes are a nightmare avoid at all costs especialy if it only costs you $10 extra
