Can I store climbing gear in a hot water closet? |

I've measured the temp in the closet to be between approx 28-35℃ depending on ambient temp. The manufacturer pages don't seem to say a lot about gear storage temps. e.g. Petzl.
Ideally I want to put everything in the HWC: carabiners, rope, rack, harness, helmet, the lot. We haven't got a lot of space and I'll have to invade the girlfriend's clothes cubpoard otherwise so bear in mind there are safety concerns either way.
One good thing is that it will be bone dry. But is there any issue with having gear at prolonged slightly-elevated temperatures?

That's why I don't keep climbing gear in my bedroom. Things can get hot in there.

Not to mention the friction burns (self inflicted)
So anything 11mm in diameter might cop the same treatment!

I do not believe that anything in you house could get hot....colder than the pines.

I realise gear isn't as fragile as the numerous warning tags might suggest, but it's quite an investment. Even if there's no obvious issue you might find that it reduces the lifespan of some items; for example, if it makes (say) the plastic of your helmet go brittle faster than usual.

jugger, if I thought U were a troll I wouldn't reply.
Ur water closet is fine, unless it leaks salty water.
If Ur paranoid 2 tha max, then wrap Ur gear in insulation.

Ask anyone who lives in the tropics?
If you keep your gear in a garage in Darwin, seems it would be no different?

gnaguts, I confess that I am indeed quite paranoid about that sort of thing.

You put a thermometer in there just to see how hot it gets?
Minimum 12 months of data, or it doesn't count!
Heh, heh, heh.
Depending on the gear some (eg karabiners), will handle quite hot temps, but laminated products (eg some tents/portaledges, and backpacks), could deteriorate and speed their potential delamination. Also, climbing shoe rubber would likely harden prematurely.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, as your gear will be long worn out with usage before warm storage effects would amount to much...
If you climb long routes in the sun in Australia your gear will get hot too, though I reckon the UV exposure does more damage to it than the heat in that situation...

Hey you gotta work out if this gf is for real...whether she really loves you etc etc.
Personally I think you should use this as a test of whether she is deserving of your love.
Tell her that scientific studies have proven that warmth will destroy the integrity of your gear. Tell her you don't mind taking the risk but you would be gutted if your children grew up without really knowing their dad because of a climbing gear failure. Remind her that if she would put some of her winter fking coats that she never fking wears with the water heater - let alone the stupid fking shoes - don't start me on the fking shoes - then my fking climbing gear would never need to be hanging with the water heater and I won't die and I'll be a good dad that doesn't die cos of your fking selfishness.

Jayford is on the money, but maybe throw in some guilt. Start by storing your gear on your side on the bed and tell her you, re going to sleep in the WC because its warm and useful

I always thought the wardrobe was for climbing gear and clothes just go on the floor?
