Bit of a weird question, what pants do you guys wear when you're climbing? Every pair i've had I have torn the arse out, or they've lasted 1 month before falling apart.

Also, where have you obtained said pants? Online or from a store?

Cactus super trousers, because they will make em super long for a few bucks extra. They are pretty tough, however I've still torn the arse out of em climbing at buffalo and ben lomond.

I'm a fan of Prana Stretch Zion. I know Bogong carry a fair bit of Prana stuff.

Old pair of jeans or any jeans depending on the climb.

I like to climb sans pants. I find it very liberating, comfortable and great for keeping unwanted tan lines in check...

I tore the arse out of a bunch of shorts, but I don't climb much lately, and my slacks have all ripped in the same spot.. What could that possibly mean?

I've ripped many pairs of Prana and Moon pants (Chicks ones)
So I now have a few pairs or lululemon pants (not the yoga style ones) that have lasted me years and are still going, I got my partner a few pairs and he hasn't trashed his yet either (that been said he's the only person I know who hasn't trashed moon pants)

Alternatively try Patagonia Simple Guides/Rock Guide.

I used to tear the arse out of mine until I got a butt hole plug.

If I'm climbing Canberra style, I wear something like Cactus, or I have some new pair of Black Diamond heavy canvas pants. Anything less burly and I tear massive holes in my pants during futile off-width granite thrashing.

Anywhere else, I just climb in boardies.

King Gee. Pretty cheap hard-wearing cotton. Used to boulder to about V7 in them and it wasn't the pants that held me back. Also Tools of The Adventure cargo pants which are a lot lighter but even daggier than King Gee.

Rigour appears to be an apt word choice.

I go work pants too, the Hard Yakka ones with knee patches. The knee pads are ace for aid climbing. These pants are very tough and roomy enough to move in, but get a bit sweaty in summer. My choice is easy as I've only got two pairs of pants: the Yakka and town pants, so the work pants cover most activities. Sad really.

PM bigchris

If they are same sizes then U could swap with the other posters who blow their pants out an wear them as double sets with one lot backwards?

Kmart cotton cargo pants have worked well in the past for me. For $25 max, very good value and just thow them away after 2-3 years when they are trashed. Also Kmart have a work pants section which are copies of the King Gee's and Yakka pants worth considering like others have said.

Kathmandu zip-off hiking pants. They've proved surprisingly durable for something from Kathmandu. I've had them for three years and they've survived some good thrashing in wide cracks. Also, you'll feel like the coolest kid on the playground in zip-offs.

I've found cords to be stretchy and long lasting, but mainly only good for winter use. Currently upgraded to some nice Patagonia ones, not cheap but robust!

I remember climbing wearing a pair of bright pink lycra tights with the names of Beatles songs scrawled all over them with blue marker pen. My girlfriend was on a Beatles binge at the time. I think it was 1988.

Just having retained that memory is embarrassing.

Now I mostly climb in Hard Yakka work pants. I ended up with about six pairs from when I worked for Country Energy some years ago. They are reasonably hard wearing and have one cargo pocket which is useful for stashing a beanie and a head torch if multi-pitching. I'm down to my last pair.

I think the pants now sold in work wear stores crap all over so-called specialist climbing pants.

I think something like these would make great climbing pants and they are pretty cheap.

Two cargo pockets, reinforced knees and arse, stretch material, belt loops would fit the bill for me.

I climbed in jeans for a while until RodW told me only boulderers climb in jeans and threatened to never climb with me again.
