Had to leave a nut and biner about 10 meters up the first pitch of Speigals Overhang when the heavens decided to open today. Have at it and may it find a new home ;)

Advertising booty on the first day it left is unusual. Why not go back and retrieve it at earliest opportunity, and if it gone then nothing changes, but if still there then you can reuse it.
If someone collects and advertises for owner then you have choice of telling them to keep it or collecting it.
aid downclimbing in rain is prolly another skill worth learning?

I can't think of a nut placement in the first 10m of that pitch, especially one to lower off.
However I am shit at placing gear. Kudos bigchris, Did the down climb seem a bit hairy? I've climbed between what you could almost call waterfalls when I've been caught out @ da ranges. And when it sets in out there, it usually doesn't relent.

Hope not. I was belaying. Bad enough watching his ass while climbing. Don't need it hurtling at me in free fall.
It was sketchy but a good call to stop rather than persist.

Look, at the end of the day, its a nut which cost $6. Gas to drive all the way out there again? Prolly $50.I found the biner at WG when I was there last week with Miguel, so no great loss. I'm sure you see what i'm getting at.
It was wet, there were waterfalls-a -plenty, and at the end of the day, I could climb Speigels with my eyes shut, but in the rain, I didn't think it was worth the risk. We also had 2 people with us that were relatively new to outdoor climbing, and I didn't feel that it would be responsible or fair to lead them up a slippery wet slab just for the sake of getting a climb in.
If someone returns it, good karma for them.
Now I have an excuse to buy some shiny DMM offsets ;)
