walking boot repairs

Hey I've got a pair of old school full leather scarpa walking boots with vibram sole. After wearing them in they are the best boots/shoes I have ever owned, and they have had hundreds upon hundreds of days use. Recent problem, one of the soles is now separating from the boot :(

I tried the old contact shoe glue which worked for a while, but didn't last the distance.

Upon Rossco's advice I rang paddy's to recommend me an awesome place for repairs....turned out the place they recommended is out of business (good one rossco - ever since fatherhood and leaving rock you are SO out of touch).

Long story short can anyone recommend a good boot repair place in melbs? Or do you reckon I can glue it back myself with better stuff than supermarket contact glue?

Are they the welded sole type or the stitched sole type?

Stitched are easy fix, just take them to any decent boot repairer.

Welded soles even though they can be glued often require a mega-ton-press to be effective, and no boot repair places I could find have that gear!

I had the same problem with a pair of motorcycle boots that 'desoled'.
Normal industrial type contact adhesive glue worked OK for a while when I vice-clamped it all together while drying, but it eventually gave out under duress in wet conditions.

I had better results with builders 'liquid no nails' type glue, and although fine for motorcycle boot street use, I doubt they would hold up to off-road use.

Where is this going re your situation I hear you ask?
~> Unless they can be stitched I think they are stuffed and you will require new boots for serious off track use.

PS I bought new motorcycle boots and relegated the old ones to pillions use(!), and made sure my new ones have a stitched on type of sole.
PPS Your old school full leather scarpa walking boots with vibram sole new equivalents, are cheap by comparison to serious off-road m/cycle boots!

Contact Scarpa? They may be able to hook you up with the goods.

Dude get a wheelchair or one of those electric scooters. Fashionable, functional and you'll never wear out a soul again;)

there is a bloke in sydney who has an electric chariot, a swastka tat on his forehead,a boom box playing elvis full boar and reguarly gets out of the chariot to confront people who have got in his way.

Back to topic. Go find a cobbler. They are a dying trade but as such most go the extra yard and appreciate your attachment to the boots.

I had a fella once put a patch over a hole near my little toe on a green ninja and was hesitant to charge me coz the patch colour wasn't the riight match.

Back to tangents and ninjas. Anyone remember the photo of moffat, onsight I think, on darkness at noon smith rocks in red ninjas.rad

That's a good link.
It seems that not only do they do footwear but also motorcycle gear.
I notice they also do handbags, so they can probably match latte-colour style, ifyaneedittoostu!

+1
I reckon it's great when I find these kind of people, and am always happy to try and keep them in business.
There is a cobbler in Albury like that. A family business with the old bloke there being a quick wit, helpful, reasonably priced, and doesn't mind sharing knowledge / philosophy too!

Go the old cobbler route. I used walkalong to replace a zip on one of my motorbike boots. Did a good job but were very expensive!
