I have a bunch of old harnesses I need to retire. They are mostly between 15 and 20 years old.

20ish Chouinard / BD Vario
Half a dozen chouinard / BD alpine bod
3 vertical harnesses.

Does anyone know of anywhere in aus that recycles nylon climbing gear? Or anyone that could use loops of nylon webbing?

give a few to Mikl to test to destruction to see how long webbing actually lasts.

If you want to trash them I'd love the buckles.

It would likely be time to retire them now just so you are assured that they would not fail on the moment that you would most need them.

A recycling facility for anything would utmost have the solution to the problem you actually are concerned about and the other pieces associated with it could likely go with the other members who are willing to get them from you for a small premium.

Lance, I think you need to go easy on the Google translator. Going from English to Japanese and back again does not exactly deliver the best of both.

I agree.

Next he'll be singing Led Zeppelin's Black Dog by machine translation: "Said hey, mama, hey, and then going to move you, make a groove going to make you sweat."

Try the Patagonia store in Melbourne (southyarra[at]patagonia.com.au) - they've got a Patagonia 'Common Threads' recycling bin, where you can recycle used Patagonia gear. Given the brand of your harnesses, it would be reasonable that they still have a "responsibility" under their own policy. That said, it might be clothing only. But hey, they might be interested in them for historical purposes. The staff there are pretty friendly and helpful, so it's worth an email.

send me a harness and I'll break it.

Ropes can be made into mats, a good and warming workout in winter. Or given to Zac:-

I went out with him and, remembering how bad his ropes are, I said I'd bring my rope. He said not to bother as he had a new rope, we got to the base of the cliff and hell, it was piece of fluffy hell!
His reply was "Well, new for me"
