Company in Melbourne selling petrol powered rotary hammer drill for $240. Imported from China, 650w, 500rpm, 8kg. Would this be any good for bolting? My Hilti just died.

Link to the drill?

If it is similar to the one Neil bought years ago, then all I recall was numerous posts cursing the thing as it quickly fell apart!

Thankfully I bought one of the last Ryobi's ;-)

The Chinese petrol drill we had was SHIT (brand Millers Falls). It never started reliably (ie some days never), the pull start cord snapped several times and the chuck wasn't even straight so it tended to drill wobbly holes.

8kg sounds very heavy?

I got very good at hand-drilling during that sorry time.

I saw Millers Falls rotary hammers (battery powered, SDS chuck) in a disposals store in Spencer St a couple of weeks ago for under $70. Not sure how many holes you'll get but almost worth the experiment.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like a piece of crap. Looks like I won't be able to bolt Ben Lomond after all

It sounds like the perfect piece of gear for bolting Ben Lomond. Almost guarantees no holes will get drilled.

I have one of those millers falls drills, works ok, I got about 20 holes and one of my mates did about the same, still sort of works. I now have a battery drill. when I get the millers falls back from Mark (unless he given it away to someone) you can have it for a slab of Boags Draught

There was a piccy in a mag a frew years ago of andrada, sharma et al doing the display of prowess a one arm front delt lift with a straight arm. I used to be able to do it, can't now. With a tank of 2 stroke 8kg spounds rigjt. Also note just coz Fants could lead. Ground up with one don't mean everyone can. Anyopne got the photo of him boling nitro express?

My first drill was a petrol drill..and it was a heavy SOB...I reckon 8kgs would be close.

Probably at the end of the school term, might make it down for a friday in a week or too, I will text you when I know. If you find anyone who wants it in the mean time they can have it for a slab of Boags.

On telej just saw a story about a woman who gave birth to a 13 pound girl. To think we are. Complaining about an 8kg dril......

Still works a dream! Lots of holes in any rock quickly. What we need is another cliff to develop! Now that the Vic Range is open .........
I can smell the fumes now ......
Maybe it's time to go back and bolt some of the other possibilities. Steve's out of action until the cherries and berries have finished, but the rest of us will be out there.

But then again we don't put in as many bolts as Neil - none of us are ADHD and we're all a tad older than Neil too! We tend to eat breakfast and drink our coffee and then head out to the crag. Neil tends to go out for a bolting excursion before breakfast! I'm getting tired thinking about it.
But we first used 'the beast' to finish bolting Curiousty Crag back in 2003. That was after dragging the generator in to finish Rob's mega-classic 'The Generator'. Yeah, it's served us well.
Must go back there and add in another couple of lines too!
