I've got one for faffing about on bikes. It's been attached to remote control cars, go karts, helmets, chests, handlebars, and various other silly places, as well as being handheld. I haven't yet used it for climbing, though I reckon you could get some really fun stuff from a helmet mount deep water soloing.
Being waterproof lets you have fun in places you wouldn't normally film, and mine's been swimming a few times.
Quality is reasonable for something that size - don't expect it to be super polished, but it is HD, and it's normally very watchable. I tend to shoot 720 rather than 1080, or go the 960 4:3 ratio on the bike.
There's a TR fairly recently posted where there's climbing footage from a GoPro - might have been 7th pillar?
Overall - If you can afford it, it's a good toy. It won't replace a "real" camera in most situations because the lens is too wide angle. This does give you a lot of new opportunities, and it means you don't have to be too accurate setting up your field of view - though practice helps here. |
