Cleaning goes a long way, but I'd opt for a silicon spray lube which will dry to something reasonably slippery that won't attract gunge like oils will. Works nicely on both crabs and cams.
If you're going to try a bike lube go for something like "White Lightning" which is a similar kind of idea. You're after something labelled "dry lube", which is basically a wax in a carrier fluid. You pour it on and it flows into the crevices, then the fluid evaporates to leave a wax coating that shouldn't get dirty.
Nylon is pretty chemical resistant so you shouldn't have to worry too much about the fluid near your cam slings. |
