DEET ate my backpack |

Spilled some Rid brand insect repellant in the lid of my pack about 11 days ago - the pump pack leaked through the bag it was in an on to the top of the pack.
I'd read that the active constituent of Rid and many other bugs sprays - DEET - could destroy fabrics but never witnessed it.
It appears that the Rid has eaten the water repellent coating on the 420D Cordura material of my Mountain Hardwear Diretissima pack.
In fact it looks as if it is continuing to eat into the finish because it is still damp all these days later!
The Cordura looks intact but the coating is tacky and fragile.
I'm off to buy some non DEET stuff.
