Climbing Shoe advice

Gday folks,

Well after a failed eBay attempt at buying shoes, im going to just buy a new pair.
Im of course going to visit the chockstone sponsor for this, but im wondering what advice i can get from the guys and girls on here!
Im a newbie to it really, but i would like a decent shoe that will last for a while. I'll be doing 95% of my climbing indoors - both bouldering and climbing. And i'll be looking at a size 44ish (EUR). Hoping to spend around the $150 mark.
What do you recommend from the range available at http://www.rockhardware.com.au/ ??

Thanks in advance!

Matthew

Scarpa veloce's? A bit expensivererer than what your looking for but they seem to be popular. Iv never had any experience with them though.

Hmmm... a little more than i wanted to spend.

Does lead to another question... velcro, slip-ons and laces. Whats the difference/benefits?

Go cheap. You will have rubbish footwork and you will trash your shoes. Get them resoled and trash them again.
Don't go ridiculously tight. There's no point getting ridiculously tight shoes for your first pair.
Go lace-up. Slippers and (to a lesser extent) velcroes are better if you have strong feet, which you almost certainly don't have as a beginner. If you get slippers you'll develop sloppy footwork, I promise.
MOST IMPORTANT: get something that fits your foot.

With these in mind, go to Rock Hardware and try everything on - the best shoe is the one that fits best. Unless you find some with lightning bolts on the side - they are the best shoes.

Dont worry about that till you trash your shoes, if you have improved enough or you made a shit decision(you wont know until you have used them for a good few months), you might even splash out on a new pair with all that knowledge and experience you will have gained.

That said-definitely get the ones that fit in with your fashion style. Dont wanna look unfashionable at the gym!

Be aware that some shoes (esp unlined shoes) stretch a lot whereas others (typically the lined variety) don't stretch as much. I would encourage you to do your research before purchasing. Don't be tempted to purchase on impulse. You, and your feet in particular, will appreciate the time you put in now.

Well i took the plunge :) In the end, i went for the Scarpa Thunders. The fit was too good to compromise on.

Steve was awesome to deal with! Really helpful in everyway and set me straight. So bigs thanks!!!

Cant wait to hit the gym now!
