Has anyone had surgery to reset the metacarpals in their hands? And if so, did it work?

Any boxers or street fighters lurking out there on Chockstone?

Yes.

and yes and no.

It worked, but I lost some range of movement in the wrist

Strange Eduardo. It's my lack of movement and further loss of strength since my latest fracture that is making me think about surgery again. They told me ten yrs ago that it would be rooted about now.

What sort of movement have u lost?

He's lost the ability to smash the shit out of and give a Chelsea smile to a gooner.

Other than that and limp Hitler salute he's 100 percent.

Yep. When the bones keep setting at the wrong angle and past the point of no return and keep going. Eventually u end up with a useless hand.

Nope dmnz is talking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupuytren%27s_contracture

Shorty is talking about keeping on smashing things until the things that smash get smashed.

I have the beginnings of the former on both hands (hereditary) but none of the latter...yet....

Correction

Having just consulted the all knowing interwebs, I broke Carpals, not Metacarpals. Hence all my answers are wrong.

I also broke the Ulna and Radius, hence the loss of movement. It all got a bit smashed up, but Stugang had it coming.

Your right Stu, it aint that. That's an old mans disease.

Dupuytren's unfortunately doesn't seem to go away, even after surgery. It keeps coming back so no there is no cure but isn't necessarily an old man's disease as you put it. I know of people getting it in their 30s etc if not earlier. If not congenital then it's partly overuse so not surprising for climbers who use their flexors a lot.

Claw hand on the other hand, so to speak, is a nerve pathology I think.

So anyway (help me out here all da doctors in the house) It's when u brake the metacarpals punching hard things. Let's say hypothetically that the joint (articulation) of metacarpals to wrist should be articulated at angle *. When u brake them and they reset outside of angle * then they continue to go in the direction that they set. Ultimately you end up with a deformed and pretty useless hand.

Anyone? I hate going under the knife with a fuggin passion!

I reckon some chockstoners have been beating up on him, thus the need to go under the knife. not such a pretty face now...
