Same as buying a car...how often do you get asked if you have a license (other than test driving)? I absolutely, vehemently and fundamentaly disagree with any proposal to take a leisurely pursuit and turn it into a regulated sport. "The industry" is only that in a commercial sense - no way is anyone going to be able to enforce any regulation. In the instance of this gym, it is plainly obvious when slings are suffering wear and tear and it's inexcusable for such equipment (all attachment points, pulleys, go slows, grigris, floor anchors etc) not to be checked daily, before and after use - this should be part of any gym's SOP - it certainly was when I was helping run one!
