Hugh Hardwick has died from complications arising from the subarachnoid hemorrhage he suffered on August 25th. Hugh's funeral will be on 2nd January at the Falkner Cremetorium at 2:30 pm. We shall have a beer together to remember him at the First and Last Hotel after the service.
Hugh loved climbing and enjoyed the relationships that he had on this site. His contribution to climbing on Victorian rock, particularly the You Yangs, I hope, will be remembered fondly.
Hugh's copy of the Climbing Guide to the You Yangs is missing from his shelf. If someone should come to his service I would so appreciate a copy to be borrowed to place on a table with other memories of his achievements.

My sincere condolences go out to Hugh's family and friends.
Although I had only met him a few times over the years, he was never anything but the consummate gentleman. His work in guidebooks and rebolting will be always very much appreciated, and his friendly smile missed.
Kind regards Martin Lama

My condolences to Hugh's family.
I found out a couple of minutes ago (from this post). I would have liked to attend his funeral.
I didn't know him well but I knew him for almost 20 years. The important thing is that we had some fun together.
Vale Hugh.

This is very sad news. My condolences to Hugh's family also. Hugh put in an enormous amount of effort developing areas where many of us climb regularly. I am very sorry to hear this.

A sad time indeed. Hugh was a founding member of Re-Bolt Victoria and his tireless work re-bolting at the You Yangs will always be a valuable asset to Victoria climbing. The brief time i spent with him will be remebered always. I hope i can continue his work at his beloved Youies.
