A WOMAN'S body was found at the base of a cliff in North Nowra yesterday afternoon.

Last night Shoalhaven Police said the case was being treated as suspicious with homicide detectives from Sydney called in.

Police became aware of the deceased around 1pm and set up a crime scene at the base of the cliff, which backs onto Bomaderry Creek.

Police later cordoned off a large area above the crime scene, at the Walsh Crescent access point to what is a popular rock-climbing site.

Later yesterday activity intensified with police setting up road blocks at the entrance to Walsh Crescent near Illaroo Road.

Officers were door-knocking all surrounding homes seeking information and a mobile command unit was established.

Police expected to be at the scene late into the evening yesterday, with crime scene investigators working under artificial lights in search of evidence.

A police rescue team also had to work under lights, abseiling down to recover the body.

The identity of the woman remained unknown yesterday evening and police have appealed to anyone that might know something to contact Nowra Police on 4421 9699.

When I found a dead body at Nowra in 96, the rather large detective was hoping they would call in the helicopter to winch the body out from below Bartondale after he walked in. So he could also get winched out and avoid the huge walk out under Rosies back to his car on Walsh Cresent!

Crikey, what is it about dead bodies and Nowra?! If the murder rate is so high, I might leave it off my 'to-do' list....

Body I found wasn't a murder victim.

I vaguely recall a body was once found near the descent of PC also.
