The Border Mail had it written up as follows;

JUMPER SAVED FOR SECOND TIME.
The bill from the rescue of a BASE jumper, who has been rescued twice in the NSW Blue Mountains, is expected to top $20,000.
Police yesterday said its the second time in four months the man has been saved after an illegal jump.
The 26 year old on Saturday fell 150 m from a cliff while BASE jumping with freinds at Pierces Pass, Bilpin, west of Sydney.
He spent six hours perched halfway down a cliff face before rescue crews winched him to safety.

Might be time for this person to pick another sport. Hope he recovers his health.

but people get sent the bill anyway arent they? so its not coming out of ur tax (heaven forbid..). thats what ambo insurance is needed for, right? or are "rescue costs" separate

but personally i'd rather my tax $ helped out people doing interesting things than got spent on bombs, guns, locking up immigrants & funding armies of spies to keep watch on undesirable parts of society

Whether you get sent a bill really depends on who rescues you.
But it's not the point. While it's good for a cheap giggle to have a shot at the "reckless" base-jumper there's more than a hint of "but for the grace of whoever...".
As one who has gratefully greeted the evacuation chopper in the past I cannot begrudge the guy his rescues and hope he makes a good recovery and either gives up that insane activity or gets better at it - quickly.
