Many people will have heard of two serious accidents at Mt Arapiles last Thursday, 18th October.
A climber took a long fall from Serpent at Mitre Rock and another took a groundfall from Comic Relief on Lower Curtain Wall.
I've heard today that there is a rumour that the climber at Mitre Rock was soloing at the time of the accident. This rumour is not correct. The climber at Mitre Rock was leading Serpent with rope and protection; I stripped the rope and remaining gear from the climb after police had given clearance.
I have no knowledge of the current condition of either climber.and can only hope that they have a positive outcome.
Also worth noting that this is at least the third serious injury due to a groundfall from Comic Relief; one of which injured the belayer when the leader landed on them. Maybe consider using pads and helmets for the start of this one.

One of my mates badly broke their ankle decking off the first boulder on Comic Relief. There's a really obvious gear placement which is pretty marginal, and a less obvious one which is bomber. Might be worth mentioning it in the next update to the six different guidebooks.

They both made it to hospital, but at last report one was still in a critical condition: http://www.mailtimes.com.au/story/5709941/emergency-services-respond-to-two-falls-at-mt-arapiles/

I believe Ben (who came off comic relief) is ok, scary accident with the potential for a very bad outcome, however luck was on his side. No idea on the other climber involved with the mitre rock incident
