Possibly this also? I see a lot of people belaying with their device and rope upside down. If you belay this way:- If the brake hand is held a bit lower than in this photo, you can have the rope briefly running around the biner and not really touching the belay device. = Super low friction mode. It will soon flip around as the belay loop has some flexibility, but once a fall has picked up some speed it is very hard to stop.
