After a long and torturous recovery from a shoulder injury (~7 months) coupled with no time to for anything remotely fun, I successfully managed to sneak in my first climb in way too long. The physio cleared me to climb and has been waiting 3 weeks for me to report back and I have to say when I do report back it'll likely be via interpretive dance;)
I only had 4 hours in which to gorge myself (nudge nudge) so ducked out to Werribee Gorge for some self belay action. Given it was a Saturday and pretty nice weather I thought it'd be absolutely packed, and I was half right. There were only 9-10 people in a few groups, though all were congregating around the Snatch and Grab/ Conscientious Pontus area. I was thinking I'd hit Big Ears as a warm up (as I reckon it's a WG classic at the grade) so I popped my head over the lip, confirmed I wouldn't be in the way and set myself up for some much needed fun. I was feeling a smidgeon hesitant around my shoulder though after gingerly climbing the first half I felt fine and decided to let it all hang out. About this time a few of the crew voiced their hesitation around my self belay setup and it wasn't until I was halfway up the climb and successfully obliged one of the young ladies who called out, "will you please jump off?" that their fears were allayed.
After a few laps on Big ears I got to talking with another young lass who was climbing Contientious Pontus. She said she wanted to learn to jam and I offered her my tape gloves in exchange for a belay. I was a little hesitant with my shoulder, and the 9.5mm rope being used for TR, though managed to climb it in a way that felt quite good, though in actuality probably looked like a really crap climber just coming back Fromm climbing hiatus;)
While I only managed 2 hours of climbing I have to say it was excellent dangling off a rope again;)

Great to hear. Frustrating but worth putting the rehab time in. I got back to climbing in October last year six months after my shoulder op and I can happily say that my shoulder is no longer the factor limiting my climbing.

I don't think that they thought that through very well.

I recall Eduardo making his comeback after shoulder injury and deciding to let it all hang out too. Needless to say the look of horror on some of the families next door summed up his approach to the situation.
In fact the continuation of your story almost mirrors that of Eduardo even further...

Unfortunately Eduardo didn't oblige, and he is still with us.

Thanks Phil and Co. I'm stoked to have had a great climb though unfortunately it'll be a while before I do anything really exciting. No time/climbing fitness means gentleness for a while yet... Unless I'm on my MTB:)

I'll be up there around Christmas Rod. I'm hoping for some time on the bike and some fun at Buffalo.
