The woman, who is in her 40s, is in a critical condition in the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
She was climbing a steep cliff face on Mount Coonowrin, in the Glasshouse Mountains, north of Brisbane, when the accident happened, a spokeswoman for the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter said.
She fell up to 40 metres and landed on rocks and vegetation at the foot of the cliff face about one third of the way up the mountain, the spokeswoman added.
Emergency workers were called about 9.18am (AEST) after two friends who were with her raised the alarm.

There is no bushwalking track up Coonowrin, it's a grade 5ish solo with a very airy traverse. It's also illegal to climb it.

That's bad news, but not the first person to end up in hospital from Climbing there.
