Greetings. I'm moving to Adelaide for uni and looking for people to climb with.
I've been climbing for an year only so won't overstate my experience :)
Can top rope up to around 20 and comfortably lead up to 16 maybe 17 (Sports only). I'm a confident belayer (although I haven't been tested with any dramatic falls just yet.).
Until I find a job, i'll have time on most weekends, mondays, fridays and most mid-days.

Each of the 3 Adelaide based unis have a climbing club of some sort.
The Adelaide Uni Mountain Club tends to be the biggest and most active, UniSA next, and the Flinders climbing club has only been going for a year or so, but has a few members too.
Hook up with one (or more) of these when you get here and you'll be soon pointed in the right direction.

Thanks Mike.
Yeah I figured and have subscribed to the Uni Adelaide Mountain Club already. Wasn't sure
how pro-active they'd be so was checking other prospects as well.
Was also looking to hit the ground running :) fingers crossed.

More info re AUMC:
they have regular gym nights every Tues and Thurs at the Vertical Reality Climbing Gym at Holden Hill. It's a pretty average gym by national standards, but there's generally a fair crowd there to get to know. It's worth finding a night that Derek (the AUMC President) is heading there, as he'll be able to introduce to people and hook you up with a catch (hopefully).
Derek tends to organise club days at Morialta (the local crag) every 6-8 weeks, and this is a good chance to learn to do toprope setups (a bit different from the way it's done at sport crags) and also get to meet people. Once you've shown you can do a TR setup, you can generally borrow the clubs gear for free, which is a good way to tide you over until you fork out the $$ for your own setup.
There's not a lot of easy sport in Adelaide. The closest place with a number of easy (sub-18) bolted routes is the best part of 2hrs away from the city. If you're clipping above 18, then check out Car Crash at Belair (or not, I think the council has theoretically closed it), and also Norton Summit (easiest route is 19, then 21, then all the way to 30 or so).
If you can't lead that hard, you'll be restricted to climbing at the gym, or TRing at Morrie or Onkaparinga.
There's a pretty active climbing community in Adelaide, so there's generally something to do.

The CCSA website hasnt been updated for a while. The meetings are a great place to meet a broad cross section of the Adelaide Climbing community (as a bonus the tiny amount you pay for membership attracts some substantial discounts from most of the Rundle St gear stores).
Car Crash is closed officially..

Hi Adam,
I tried getting in contact with CCSA membership. The email for the membership contact on the website did not work for me. Also, as you mentioned, the website hasn't been updated and there is no lead to the next meeting. Where could I find more info on future meetings, alternate e-mail adds for membership etc?
Thanks
Shyamal

Not sure about alternate emails, but the next meeting isn't for a while. The last one was two weeks ago, so the next one isn't until the first Monday of April.

I'll pass on the email address you registered for chocky with onto someone on the committee so you can get onto the group mailing list. That way you will know when the meetings are, and are aware of any access restrictions.
