All,
Getting a bit ahead of myself here as I'm talking about the end of December but here goes...
I'm heading out to Melbourne from the UK for a couple of weeks after Dec 25th or so and wanted to pack my rack in the hope that I'd be able to get 4/5 days, or more if possible, out at Araps ticking off a few.
I'm travelling from the UK visiting a few friends, non-climbers alas, and would be somewhat disappointed if I wasn't able to get onto some of the worlds finest sandstone! The one thing I'm missing as you may have guessed is a climbing partner, and that is where I thought this forum might be able to help.
I was kind of hoping to be able to hook up for a mid-week trip (or trips in consecutive weeks) with individuals or groups who wouldn't mind another making numbers up.
I've been climbing for 3/4 years UK with a few weeks in the Alps over the last couple of seasons. I lead up to VS 4c, that's what that 16/17?, on a really good day, but going to have to consolidate at this grade for a while as I'm sure there are a few out there that are going to kick my ass; 6b sport; V3/V4 Font 6a/6b. Happy seconding harder.
I've got rack and am not bothered if I have to bring my doubles. I am likely to have some wheels sorted from Melbourne too.
In short it looks like I'll be there 25 Dec - 10 Jan, so drop me a mail if you can help @ uncleboz@googlemail.com
Cheers
Boz.

Apart from our summer heat, that is prime holiday time for many Aussies.
~> Arapiles will have heaps of climbers in residence at that time, and you should have no problems arriving at campsite and finding a partner/s.

Quartzite.
Though the nearby Grampians has much sandstone.
Arapiles is a veritable wonderland at the grades you are interested in. You won't be disapppointed.

Yea M9 has the right of it. Show up at the campsite you will find partners. Think Camp 4
but cleaner and friendlier.

Thanks.
Well if you see a lone Brit in need of a belay, sort him out eh?!

Hey Boz - Myself and a few others will be there from about the 22nd December - ?? January for an extended stay - so I wouldn't worry about finding partners.
It's my first trip to araps and am keen to get in a good number and range of routes. Hopefully it won't be too hot.
Everyone else - What are the options for rest days in an around Araps? Any decent walks to do? Swimming spots? Or find a shady tree and read a book for the first time in a while?

Thanks GM.
I'll be furiously searching for shade! Always good to pick up a few contact in advance.
On the topic of rest days, how much aggravation is a journey for a walk into the Grampians?

I'll be heading to Grampians & Mt Arapiles from 25th Dec - 3rd Jan & looking for a climber partner aswell. Grampians isn't that far from Mt Arapiles. About 40 min drive.

Depends how hot it is. Generally during summer that part of the world is consistently 35degs or higher. If you're keen to go for a walk, take a lot of water (like, a 1L per hour minimum). I'd probably use the rest day to rest. Sleep in, find a shady tree and relax.

Sweet. Looks Iike it's all sorted then.
Would any one like to give me an insight into what they've got planned for New Years at Araps. I've got a crate of beer but not sure I can get through it all on my own!
