Hi me and my family are moving to melbourne to live in october, hopefully around the mentone area.
I live presently in the north east of england..... Whats the scene like around there whats the nearest crag or bouldering area, climbing wall etc to mentone. I am really looking forward to getting over there and meeting new people..... Got two kids 4 and 6 year olds so being doing a lot of bouldering lately but hopefully getting back into trad soon.

Jimmy - we have several of your English bretheren out here already (although I don't know how many are in Mentone) and they all seem to like it very much. Perhaps its something to do with sunshine, lots of warm stone, very few crowds and a generally great lifestyle. I don't live over that side of town so I cant comment on the closet bouldering or indoor climbing wall - I'm sure you'll find something to amuse you. Maybe someone else here knows?
Cheers, Rupert

Hi Jimmy,
no crags in the Melbourne city area. See guide link for Melbourne and the overview maps for 'local' i.e. day trip distance areas.
For inner city training there are a few bluestone bridges and walls used. As for indoor walls, there was (still is??) a small gym in Seaford, but I would recommend driving north to Nunawading - website for the centre listed in links.

Lysterfield is a great bouldering area within about 30 mins of CBD on well featured granite. All over the hills overlooking the Lysterfield region/suburb
