Skinning up to Blue Lake from Guthega Dam to have a play around.
If anyone is keen I might actually take a rope.

Hey Peter,
have a great trip.
Can you please take some photos for us and post on Chockstone?

Unfortunately my camera battery mysteriously died, so no photos, however the ice is in great condition. The upper walls are fat and blue and the big line down the front of the left buttress connects down to the snow. Everything is quite watery, ie much dinner plating, but it's all thick enough for decent screws.
I skinned up from Perisher to Charlottes then on to Blue Lake on Saturday and soloed the upper walls a few times in the afternoon. The weather was pretty rubbish overnight and on Sunday, coating everything in powder. So I slept in and nursed my blisters (mountaineering boots not so fun to ski in), then skied out sunday arvo.

Thanks for that - good info - a few weeks back I heard that Blue Lake had not frozen over in total as yet - was that the case?
Will be heading there myself next weekend - and also might consider taking a rope if others are heading out.

Was at Blue Lake a couple of weeks ago and the lake was totally frozen over, couldn't hit water with a
22cm ice screw.

Yeah totally frozen over. It looks good for August for sure. I'll probably head down another two times hopefully.

Was up around Seamans Hut and Kozi on Fri/Sat. Had planned to go across to Blue Lake but Fri weather
was very bad up high, clouds over all the tops and strong winds. Sat was much better. Generally
backcountry snow cover is good, but certainly not heavy, less than recent years. There are large patches
on spurs that are quite bare and several large parts of the steel track were showing on the way down to
Thredbo.
But it has been cold, around -7C or less at Perisher and probably around -10C or so near Seamans on Fri
night, so Blue Lake should be good, without too much snow banking out the bottoms.
