November trip to Red Rocks, Nevada

Hey Chockstoners,

This is a long shot, but what the heck...

I'll be in the USA for a short time in November, and have managed to squeeze 6 days in Vegas into my schedule, Saturday 8/11 until Thursday 13/11, inclusive. I've heard over on rec.climbing that November is a really good time to climb at Red Rocks, and the descriptions I've read at SuperTopo sound fantastic -- long, multipitch sandstone routes in the middle of a desert.

Anyway, I am looking for people to climb with, or even if you know someone in the Vegas area who climbs, please pass this on! I probably won't be climbing harder than 5.10a. Have rack and other gear. Any other recommendations would be appreciated...

V :-)

Heya!

I live in the US- and unfortunately, I won't be in Red Rocks during that time- I just returned from RedRocks a week ago! The weather is getting JUST right. The shady routes in the big canyons will be MUCH cooler, so bring clothing accordingly. And trust me, you will want to get to some of those routes!!! Prince of Darkness is in one of those chilly canyons!

So what's the tick list?
Prince of Darkness, Black Velvet Canyon- 6 pitches of 5.10 face climbing...
Crimson Crysalis, Cloud Tower- 9 pitches of amazing 5.8...
Wholesome Fullback, Whiskey Pk.- 2p, 5.10 on gear with a nice variety of climbing...
Ragged Edges- Single pitch 5.8 crazy crack (commiting lead for 5.8, actually)...
Great sport climbing along the loop road could keep you occupied for a while...
Like to chimney? Try out Epinephrine- 14+ pitches, having a few 5.9 chimney pitches!
Lotta Balls is a fun route, at 3-4 pitches, 5.8. Easy, but fun!
Plus, ANYTHING else you can get on! There are many more great routes and areas. I still have a huge ticklist myself!

Keep in mind, routes in Red Rocks sometimes have full-on 50+ meter pitches, requiring two ropes to get off. Some routes need maybe 3 pieces each of the same size gear due to the splitter sandstone cracks, but a double rack will get you up most climbs requiring gear.

If you email me, I can hook you up with some friends who may be in the area at that time... (email edited out), mate! Also, Desert Rock Sports in Vegas can help you out... Look 'em up!

Cheers!
Ian.
