All good points guys both for’s and against’s and Neil, Sabus points are valid!! and you might be lucky, as I said last time we felt very lucky to come home with our lives! And my wife is South African! and we were travelling with locals! (and that was the last time I goto SA)
I have had some great experiences in SA and don’t get me wrong I was just pointing out the dangers, but you need to go there with a very different attitude as the dangers are very real, and you need to be aware of them!
I have climbed in other third world countries through Asia etc and loved experiencing everything these places and people have to offer but SA is different!
If you want to climb safely in SA go to one of the major areas like Mpumalunga – Waterval area or all the places crossdresser mentioned and hook up with a guide or the SA climbing club/local climbers and you can do this in most of the provinces that have a climbing area’s with clubs! but its not wise to just go climbing with a partner by yourselves.
The other hassle is getting to these areas safely you have to be careful where and when you stop where you stay and who you choose to talk to etc.
