Hi,

I'm planning on going up to the Grampians the week of Feb 11th and am looking for someone to climb with. I'm from Ireland and have led climbs up to grade Very Severe (I've not yet climbed in Australia so I'm not sure what the equivalent grade is here!) Thats Trad climbing. But have been out of climbing for about a year so probably not at that level right now. I'm keen to get back on some rock, even top roping and maybe leading a few easy routes to get confidence back. As I said I'm planning on been up around the Grampians from Feb 11th to 15th, so 4 days of solid climbing if anyone is available that'd be great, even if you are only available for one of the days!!

P.S. - I don't have a car!

Cheers,
Lloyd

Have you been to Arapiles yet? It would probably better suit what you are after. More partners, less need for a car and HEAPS of fantatsic trad at your level.

No I haven't been to Arapiles yet. I'll probably go there instead so, sounds a bit better. I've heard its really good up there too. You reckon it would be easy to find someone around there to climb with so? Do you know if there is public transport from Melbourne up to there?

Cheers

Really easy to hook up with other climbers at Arapiles. The campsite (the Pines) usually has at least 50 climbers at this time of year - and heaps more on weekends.

Not sure on the public transport options - should be reasonably easy to get to Horsham - and then i believe there is a bus that goes once a day from Horsham to Arapiles? Any local have more info?

train and bus out to horsham mate, then stick the magic thumb out and youll be there in no time.
p.s. partners are hard to find with weekend warriors, but try to find the long stayers, everyones always welcoming to partner up or join into a group.
If your in gramps just rock up to Livefast cafe and ask for any local climbers, they'll know where to send you.

Cheers for the replies, unfortunately my planned time off work has changed and I'll have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks before I can make it up there now, bit of a disaster but still at least I have some climbing to look forward to!

Finally sorted out my time off with my boss, back to the original plan! Will be flying over to Melbourne this coming weekend(9th) and catching train/bus to Arapiles on Monday 11th, hoping to climb for a few days there if anyone is around please let me know. Will habve to return to Melbourne then either Thursday evening or early Friday morning.

If anyone is free around that time and looking for climbing partner let me know. I'm new to Arapiles and really looking forward to getting some climbing in! I plan on staying in the Pines campsite, does this have facilities to cook? and is there a shop near by (walking distance) to resupply food etc??

Cheers

For your last two questions: no and no. The nearest town is Natimuk (8km), and 'facilities' consist of toilets and bore water.

There are a couple of rainwater tanks available also.

Shop in Natimuk has only very basic groceries and takeaway.
Best to shop in Horsham. On Monday, when you reach Horsham the bus-stop is only 1 block from one of the major supermarkets and you will have time (an hour or so I think) before the Natimuk/Arapiles/Goroke/Naracoorte bus leaves to shop. Make sure to get fuel for your stove and some drinking water. The Goroke bus will drop you at the campground (you have to ask though).

The Araps camp site is nearly as empty as the billabong at the moment. Only about a dozen people here and during the last week including the weekend there has only been about 30. There's a guy here that is probably heading back to Melbourne on the weekend and then back to Araps on Monday and he will be looking for a partner. He will post a message maybe later today

I'm around araps, usually staying in the pines, occasionally in town and am looking for climbing partners. I have to spend a few days in Bendigo mid next week but otherwise am pretty free to climb anytime.

Best to text or email.
