Hello,

We are travelling Australia in October, in NSW especially. A friend told me that because i'm a climber, i have to climb in Nowra and its great sandstone walls!
So... ok!
But first of all i'll need to rent the whole climbing stuff (exept shoes...). Does anybody know where i can get it?
Also, it'll be very nice to climb with people who knows the crags. 22&23th. Octo. are working days, but maybe there is a chance to meet some people there?

We are 3 Frenchies (my girlfriend, a friend and i), from south of France just near the Calanques, a really great climbing area. I'll be happy to share information about this place when drinking a good beer after climbing Nowra cliffs ;)

Thomas

Edited: ...i did a mistake, we're coming in October not in November!

Nowra is a small pleasant sport climbing area, with some very hard routes, and it could be rather hot there. There are many bigger and better areas in Australia:- Blue Mountains, Grampians, Arapiles

australias premier bouldering area is cheesedale at nowra and summer afternoon winds create good un sesonable condtitions. As a tourist a mixture of cheesdale and point perpendicular climbing and camping at honeymoon bay at jervis bay would be a good outing

I did a *BIG* mistake in my post...we're coming in October not in November...

@White trash: I see on pictures several climbing areas like "The Grotto Cliffline" and "Thompson's point"...the cliffs looks amazing! the shapes are disturbing! Here in south of France, the only way to climb on sandstone is to climb one of a big walls at "Cap Canaille". But there is only a little slice of few meters thick containing sandstone, surrounded by limestone.

Here is a picture when climbing in this piece of standstone: http://a401.idata.over-blog.com/0/04/81/93/2010-4/Damocles--2-.JPG

@mikllaw: Do you think that it'll be too hot to climb at the end of October? Other cliffs you told me look great but i'm looking for sport routes with quick access and not so far from the see. Moreover my girlfriend is scared when it's too high...

@widewetandslippery: Thanks for information. A friend gave me a guide about Perpendicular Point climbing. I'll do my best to climb over there, it's beautiful. I would like to camp at Honeymoon bay but it seems to be open only fridays and saturdays. Access to the Beecroft Peninsula seems to be strongly regulated, do you know if i'll have the possibility to park my van for 2 nights there?

Thank you all

October will be ok, if you are after short sports routes there are plenty there (though there are some 35m classics).
I hope you get to see some other areas also.

Thomas - re Point Perp - if you have the guidebook, all the info is there, but see http://pointperp.com/About_Point_Perpendicular.html if not - this gives good general info. There are no school holidays in October, so Honeymoon bay is open for camping only on Friday & Sat nights - ie you can climb Fri/Sat/Sun. But there is also other camping, see link above for alternatives for weekdays. You won't be able to park your van on the peninsula outside of the formal camping area. Enjoy.
