I’m a Queensland climber, climbed around most of Australia over the last 6 years but never WA so when a work conferance came up in Perth this December I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to take a few weeks off to explore the crags around the most remoste city in the world.

I have heard insipiring things about the climbing over there, namely West Cape Howe and Margaret River, though I would would be keen to explore the crags around Perth too, but my dilema is I don’t have any climbing friends over there, so I am looking to make new ones :)

I love all styles of climbing, trad or sport and can generally manage up to around 26. I would also love to return the favour if you were ever to visit Brisbane. I'll be free to climb for 10 days from Wed 5th December to Sat 15th December

so is anyone up for an adventure?

Pete,

I am living in Perth until the end of the year. I'll be around sporadically in december.

I have climbed at Willyabrup near Margaret River. It consists of a 20-30 m high cliff, set back about 100 m from the sea - facing the ocean. Its a lovely spot and the climbing is quite good.

I've not climbed around the southern coast - but I've been down there and the cliffs are spectacular. Stirling Ranges is supposed to be quite good too - once again i've not climbed there but I've done the ridge walk and that was awesome.

Perth local crags are pretty rubbish and mainly consist of a handful of old disused quarries. Definitely not worth coming across the country for - but if you're here then they are OK for a day trip or something. I've climbed at Staughton or Stanton quarry - and I hear Boya quarry is in the same league.

I'm a pretty rubbish climber mind you - but if you'd like to catch up and go for a look around i'd be interested.

Gus.

Have you posted on the climberswa.asn.au forum? You'll probably find someone there.

Oh I wouldn't say that. The Perth crags have their own appeal, and there are quite a few natural crags as well as the quarries. If you like slab then Mt Cuthbert and Wungong are quite lovely for a Winter Sunday outing. Churchmans Brook has some great climbs, however the hardest problem there at the moment is finding your car windows intact at the end of the day.

The quarries are their own thing. Half of Mountain Q is currently falling down, Boya is very loose in the West bay, but the East bay has some alright bolted lines and Stathams has some nice climbs (Real Life Ambition (21), Morning Glory (17) and a few others that are too hard for me).

But seeing as you would be there in December, grab some shoes you don't mind getting wet and play at Blackwall Reach for a few hours. Closest thing you'll find to deep water soloing.
