Hope you've already got a lead pass Ludo, cos getting a lead check with the Hardrock crew is an absolute joke. Don't expect to turn and it all just to happen then and there. Plenty of staff but none of them qualified to do much more than take people's money it seems.

Lead checks are done every Tuesday night at Hardrock Nunnawading and all you need to do is call and get them to put ur name down or go in person. Why don't you go down in person Pete and tell them what you think? Not everyone can come running when you walk through the door to give you what you want when you want. Try inquiring first and turn up when lead checks can be done before making them out to be useless..

Ludo - happy to just as soon as I've got a lead pass ;)
Marky - Coupla things.
1) I live in town and climb at the CBD gym, so heading out to Nunawading simply to get a lead check is a pain in the arse.
2) The Tuesday night slot has been booked out two weeks in advance since I've been trying to get this down. In order to lead climb at the CBD, you must first book a couple of weeks in advance, for one slot on one night a week, at another which happens to be 20kms away. Seriously?
3) I have already provided my feedback to the Hardrock folk and will happily do so again
I've climbed at a few gyms round the place, both in Aus and overseas, and that is an absolute doozy.
Ludo, apologies for hijacking your thread. Rant over.

Did they mention there's a written component to the lead check? If you fail that or the practical you have to book into their lead course: 2 nights and more than a hundred dollars.
They did have a series of leading accidents in the city gym before this policy was instituted.
I wonder if the insurer pushed it or they just decided they didn't want as many people leading. One of the flow ons from it is that you have to be super keen to lead to be arsed gettting your ticket now.

Whilst I'm generally quite happy to bag people where deserved, in the name of fairness:
1. It's not that bad, Nuna is a very different climbing experience to the city so it's fun to get out there anyway.
2. May not be the intention but you make it sound like there's only ONE slot the entire week. As far as I know Dave conducts several tests on Tuesday one after the other. Two of my friends booked the week before their test and had the choice of a couple of time slots, this was only two months ago.
From idle chatter I know they are thinking about testing in the CBD but that won't happen till late Oct at the earliest.
