Climbing guides in Arapiles?

Hi,
Apologies if this has been posted before. We are 2 folks coming over from Perth (one with a fair bit of climbing, one without too much) to spend a few days at Mt Arapiles at the end of the month. We have been looking for a climbing shop / organisation that offer private guiding etc. So far despite google we haven't managed to find anyone! One number we did find seems no longer to be active.

Any advice or ideas would be really appreciated.

When I google for Arapiles Climbing Guides, I get http://www.arapiles.com.au/ and http://www.climbco.com.au/ and the Arapiles guide page from this site...

And God made them all different...or if you believe something else...random selection never made the same choice twice...each to their own widewetandslippery. Bit bloody harsh.

I suppose without knowing wws from a bar of soap. He does have a point though.

Back your climbing ability and head up something easy with the same rule again....just don't fall.... and everything will be alright.

Learning to climb trad is like soloing. No climbing guide will ever help keep your head in check.

It was not a case of us needing a guide to hold our hand more so we can get the most out of our time! Thanks for advice WWS true keyboard hero...TWAT!

Dave Filan or 'widewetnslippery', how's that lifeline advice I gave you going? Seriously, give em a call mate. They'll also help you understand how not to repeatedly show your insecurities when someone politely asks for advice on a web forum where people come to share ideas & experiences, & ask advice.

OK maybe WWS was a little too blunt.... but Araps is the perfect place to just get out there and have a go. So many awesome routes for climbers of all abilities. Get yourself a guidebook and have an explore - you'll have a great time without the need for a guide.

Why the gratuitous suggestions on how these people should organise their climbing trip? They've decided what will suit them and it's fine. It's nobody else's business.

Why not? if people post things on chocky other people are going to offer suggestions..... i reckon buying a book and having a poke around is definitely worth considering.

Sounds bloody sensible to me. If I was going somewhere I didn't know well, with limited time and had the money, I would definitely consider using the services of a guide. From what I understand, once a guide has spent a bit of time with you and knows your ability, they let you lead. Is that correct? Does it apply to most or only a minority.

Answering my own question here, I guess it's something to ask them when you are calling up to book.

Wide: " Um, yeah. I replied harshly to someone on chockstone, and it came out a bit weird cause I was pissed and my fat fingers don't hit the right keys"

A guidebook perusal beforehand is likely to be a cheaper option, ie search out the multi-star routes within your experience-grade range?
