Been down here last two weeks, done some bouldering in Bicheno an drooling in Freycinet and around the Tasman peninsula.

there are three snakes in tasmania, all poisonous. the tiger snake (much darker than the mainland cousin and often devoid of stripes), the copperhead and the white-lipped.
Noone has died from them in years, and the white-lipped hasn't killed anyone/is often thought not to actually inject any venom.
I really wouldn't worry about them. A funny story (from my point of view) is that last year in the walls of jerusalem park my g/f was happily stomping along and came within ~1.5m of standing on (what i believe to have been) a tiger snake crossing our path. The snake reared up and she screamed and ran off behind me, but as soon as she was moving away the snake was lowering its head. Almost standing on a snake and not being bitten indicates to me that they don't really want to attack you unless it's absolutely necessary (ie that you stood on/hurt them)...
