So the weather looked promising, cloudy & 17.. Started with an early start.. When we got to the carpark low clouds looked like they might stay around all day. But we headed off any way and walked slowly up to the emergency shelter.. sat there for awhile and waited for something to happen.. in less than 30 mins the clouds blew off.. so we started the traverse..

From Hansen's Peak Weidorfer's Tower is completed obscured by cloud..so we wait..

First abseil completed off Little Horn.. Should really start taking some photos..

Along the saddle .. great exposure...

climbing the ridge .. is a bit of choose your own adventure...

came up the north face of weindorfer's tower.. some good soloing was had..

from the tower .. clouds burn off.. beautiful day.. should have put some sun block about now..

second abseil.. off weindorfer's tower ..

we have completed the traverse come down..

an awesome day...

all up round trip 10.5 hours...

I really enjoyed the pics, and you have inspired me to add this adventure to my list of things 'to do'.
Thanks for posting the Trip Report.

I'm heading down to Tassie over Easter for a wedding and as my wife will be busy doing bridesmaid stuff, I'll have a couple of days free to go and play.

We're flying over so I don't have space for much gear but am thinking of having a crack at the Skyline Traverse. I understand it's a bit of a choose your own adventure but am keen to know if there is any gear that is critical and how long a rope you need for the raps, or if you can get around them?

Cheers for any help

Looks awesome tazmaniac!
Would also be keen to hear what kit you went with ropes wise?

Hi, did the traverse on Boxing Day, a couple of short raps was it, one of which we could possibly avoided. We took a 60m 7.7, some slings and rap tat. We also took some nuts and hexes but they stayed in the pack. Climbing airy but easy. Awesome day out, enjoy.

So we took 1x 60 metre rope .. Some slings ( which we thought we might have to use sacrifice) there was a lot of tat.. I think we sacrificed one sling to the tat totem..there was a couple who came the other way (smithies to little horn) and got a little lost .. The route is easier to find going from little horn to smithies....

Thanks guys, sounds like I'll try and fit a 30m rope and a pull cord in. Fingers crossed the weather plays the game too!

Would a 30m rope be ok for the abseiles, or am I better with a 60?

I remember that the 60m was too much and I should have brought the 50m... I did not 'measure' the exact length.. but it was around 20 ish metres...

-who has a 30 metre rope?

Me, and a few thousand European climbers. They're good for easy glacier climbs and easy ridge climbs, like this one.
