Just did a quick check. $800 return to Japan. Crazy.

Thanks for that mate. I got tickets for 76 and 74 dollars, pretty awesome. Have found a good granite area called ogawayama which Im going to. Apparently there are brown bears in the area, so will be fun.

A work mate of mine flew to Japan last summer for $30 each way from Cairns. I told him he was mad - he should have paid $60 for first class.

there was an article about Ogawayama in the NZ Alpine club magazine a few years ago - apparently its quite good. if I could get tickets for $150 I'd go to Japan just to drink beer & saki & be a tourist wanker. such an interesting place to visit.

Just got back from Japan. The climbing is cool, granite with lots of texture, many cracks for trad climbers, and lots of fun bouldering. I was the only white person there, but felt very welcome. Japanese people are incredibly polite and friendly, I recommend this spot for an exotic holiday. You get cold beer from the vending machine and there is a 4 dollar sauna, very hot, in which to relax after a great day climbing.

I found traces of Royal Robbins and Chris Sharma, so its not entirely exotic anymore.

I camped in my tent behind a boulder, sipping sake and eating grilled eel in the evening, had an awesome time!

Also, lots of historic sites to visit, I did my share of tourist wanking
