I'm after some info on a guidebook for araps. Is Arapiles Selected Climbs, the guide book authored by Simon Mentz & Glenn Tempest the most current?

And does anyone know if there are plans to publish and update anytime soon? I dont really want to go and buy the old version 2 months before an update is released.

Thanks

... counting down till 'He who wrote the book' replies as it should be worth waiting for.
Heh, heh, heh.

Here's the email I got from the publisher on the 15th of Jan:

Unfortunately the guide you are after is still in production, so we are unable to release it as yet. I'll make sure our website is updated so people know. We are not taking a list of customers as such, but there are a couple of ways you can keep abreast of the release of the guide so you can get a copy as soon as its available. Bogong, The Wilderness Shop and Paddy Pallin in Melbourne will be the first to sell the guide, and Arapiles Mountain Shop as well.

We will try to keep the release date posted on our website, and you are welcome to email me any time to check if it's out yet. I'd say the Arapiles guide is still two months away from being ready.

Kind Regards,

If you can find the old version to buy, you will be doing well, given that it has been sold out for quite a while now. I've heard of some copies going for almost double their normal retail price.

The new version is on its way. I've not going to give a ETA, given that I have been completely wrong every time. All I will say is that it progress is being made on the book (most of the layout has been done) and it looks pretty good, but there is a heap of tweaking still to do, plus bouldering and indexing still to complete.

By the way, we will probably colour code boulder problems using 'easy', 'medium' or 'hard' and not worry too much about grades. This is because of the wide discrepancy of grades we've received for boulder problems.

It's a Selected Climbs Guide yes?

... you are possibly in a no-win situation as there will always be new things being done.

Hope I didnt open a can of worms, I remember the months (years) of questions at the crag about "when is the new bluies guide coming out? I hope they dont downgrade paddington as its my first and only 25 tick etc". I just wanted an indication cause I'm heading down in March and thought it strange that there are no guide books on the shelves at the climbing shops.

I just checked, and one of the local stores has the Revised Edition 2001 for sale.
PM me if you want further detail.

Don't forget to put a perforation down the side of the hero worship and bouldering pages

Is this as opposed to routes?

I'm happy to play God when it comes to grading routes, but never felt the urge to do so with Arapiles boulder problems.

At the very least can you put the ETA on it so that when you get it wrong we can be entertained with an array of old "simey said" jokes?
