Is Victoria open for climbing ?

I get about 8 days off family duties to climb outdoors each year, and four of them are this weekend (Thursday -> Sunday). Weekend looks passable, but is there anything at all I can climb (without needing heli-lifting for access) ???

I would've thought that access at Araps would be business as usual.

11 degrees and 90 percent chance of rain though ... need a cave you can actually get to !

Shit. I hadn't bothered to check the weather for our own trip yet....
Saturday seems alright and there are enough options at Araps to find something dry or easy.

Wow, such pessimism over fairly benign forecasts.

Horsham forecast

Thursday : "Very high (90%) chance of showers, most likely in the evening." - showers - not rain - and most of the day should be clear

Friday : "Shower or two..."

Saturday : "Partly cloudy"

Sunday : "Sunny day. Late shower or two."

It hardly sounds like the apocalypse is nigh.

At the risk of hijacking .. oh nah what the hell .. As far as I know, Dedication 15,M4 at Mackeys Peak hasn't had a clean aid ascent. There's a big roof at the top to keep you dry if it sprinkles.
Try that one and let me know how you get on.

Don't thank me, happy to help.

Which would I be more scared of, the odd shower of rain or the constant shower of crappy rock?

Hmmm ...

Dedication Aid 93m, 2
Start: Major line 35m R of TGC.

34m (15) Up repulsive, vegetated crack around black mossy bulge. Continue up on rotten, mossy rock then move L to ledge and old bolt.

25m (- M4) Free up corner to roof, aid out under roof and up overhanging crack to tiny ledge.

34m (-) Exposed bulge and very mossy crack to large ledge. Easily up from here.

Where'd you find that jolly forecast? BOM has the apocalypse scheduled tomorrow afternoon till Friday with an encore on Sunday afternoon:

I probably wouldn't want to be there Thursday and Friday, but the actual weekend doesn't look too bad.

Sat: Max: 17 Cloudy. Slight (20%) chance of a shower in the morning.

Sun: Max: 23 Partly cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers later in the day.

In my experience, 20% means you have to be unlucky to see any rain. The 70% forecast is less promising, but if you look at the hourly data (e.g. in a phone app) the rain isn't due until after 5pm.

Same site but earlier in the day. They obviously refined the forecast as the day went on but it's still not too bad, though not "hot and dusty"

Adelaide is being told to batten down the hatches for a 1 in 50 year storm.

The radar over Adelaide is still clear, so I'm going for a climb today, but I'l be home before this http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDV20032.html :

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in the Central, Mallee, South West, Northern Country, North Central, Wimmera and parts of the North East Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:55 am Wednesday, 28 September 2016.

WEATHER SITUATION:
A complex, developing low pressure system approaching from the west with an associated trough is expected to reach northwest Victoria late on Wednesday.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are expected to develop across western districts late Wednesday with gusts reaching 110 km/h in elevated areas and with thunderstorms. These winds are expected to extend eastwards to central districts early Thursday morning.

HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely to develop across the Mallee and Wimmera districts Wednesday night, extending to the Southwest and central districts, and parts of the North East district during Thursday morning. Rainfall totals of 10-25 mm are likely across these districts with isolated totals of 50 mm possible, and are likely to fall within a 6-9 hour period. Thunderstorms may also result in locally higher falls.

Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Horsham, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne and Wangaratta.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
* Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;

The next warning is due to be issued by 10:55 am.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Oh, and I find The Norwegians do a pretty decent job of forecasting too:

http://www.yr.no/place/Australia/Victoria/Mount_Arapiles/hour_by_hour_detailed.html

You can find almost anywhere in their forecasts too. eg:

I love the wind direction variations. I wonder if they can break it down for different parts of the Pines.

In the end Horsham got 11.4mm yesterday, mostly after 9pm, which I think will make this September the wettest on record. It's been super windy, so most of the hard surfaces in Horsham seem to have dried off quite a lot already but they are forecasting more rain on and off today. The barometer is the lowest I've ever seen it out here.

So on the topic of rain and access... Has anyone visited Bundaleer since the initial park closure? If so, what's the state of Stony Creek Track? Parks Vic currently lists it as open but recommended 4WD only, with possible fallen trees. Can anyone provide any more specific info?

Thanks!

To answer my own question, Stony Creek Rd from the Rosea carpark to Rosea Tk was fine for 2WD, but Rosea Tk was closed due to flood damage just before the Bundaleer carpark. So you just have to park at the Rosea Tk intersection instead, which adds about 800m of walking.
