I've been wanting to boulder outdoors for sometime now. Having found this place is just outside melbourne's cbd, it sounds attractive. Has anyone gone to it? Is it worth it? Theres no photos on the web of it. Should i just stuff it and find some time to get to the gramps?
Cheers

Its rubbish! It is not even 1% of the quality/size/worth of any bouldering crag of the Grampians. The
kayaking is not much better.

I live five minutes away and I don't bother. It's virtually mud. Hateful chossy rock.

Was written up in the now offline City Limit Bouldering 'guide' now listed as a broken link on the links page.
There are a few average outcrops next to the falls - the best of a bad lot being an easy overhang at water level as seen in this old photo http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/pictoria/b/1/7/doc/b17487.shtml
The whole hill is in this picture http://www.consultel.com.au/rjeffery/Australia/2004_08_26_Yarra_Trail/picture0014_pbcfs_std.jpg
And it's all as good as it looks... there are a few short fins of rock where you could try to do some eliminates and if you are lucky and the holds may stay attached.

Yes indeed. I live about 4 minutes away and i've never bothered to try anything. There are much better
bouldering areas in Melbourne (mostly on bluestone bridges). Burnley is the shinizzle.

Dont bother, you would have more fun climbing the underside of the bridges which cross the river

Cheers for the replys. I've been doing burnley weekly and was just itching to try my hand on some real rock. Are there any places near the cbd worth it? How about Lysterfield? Found some information on a website but doesnt really tell us where it is or anything. Heres the website if you're curious http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/listArea.php?AreaID=6069

Do a search on this site on Lysterfield as the topic... Already discussed as not really worthwhile.

The You Yangs is a 40min drive from the CBD and has plenty of good boulders (sharp!). Camels Hump
has some resonable bits to play on (1 hour from CBD). A bit further afield at Black Hill and Cobars you
will find plenty of good granite bouldering and short solos. Invest in a little bit of a drive and you will be
amply rewarded. It goes wihtout saying that if you drive for 4 hours you will honestly get to climb on
some of the WORLDS BEST rock-climbs (ie Grampians and Arapiles).
