I am about to go to sth africa on very short notice under family circumstances. I will be there for about 3 weeks. I am a well travelled traveller and have been warned about what to prepare for in cape town.
I am looking for some climbers info on the area, good climbing crags and if possible to camp at them like so many australian climbing destinations, and if not cheap places to stay while cragging. Also any problems climbers had while there, i have heard that some places you have to be very careful travelling.

any info would be much appreciated, as it was not a planned trip but due to circumstances. I am well travelled and well aware of the political situation over there.
I am an all round climber.
cheers

Try the same query on http://www.climbing.co.za/forum/ - quite active forum of South African climbers, with loads of info

Table Mountain itself has exceptional climbing, & loads of it - nearly all trad. Every type of accommodation available in Cape Town, from camping to 5 star. Cedarberg / Wolfberg also has lots of brilliant trad climbing. Plenty of sport climbing too around Capetown, Silvermine, Montagu etc. World class bouldering at Rocklands. It is a climbers paradise.

You seem to be aware of the security issues, and seem to be streetwise - good. Hook up with the locals if you can (they are normally very friendly) and you'll be fine. Have fun and post a TR! I miss Cape Town, one of my favourite cities in the world.

Hey bigfish, let me know what you find. We're actually heading over to SA in about two weeks including a 2 day lightning trip to cape town. Planning on being there on the 25th and 26th of June. Goal is to do a few routes on table mountain if the weather allows it. Will have a small rack and a rope with us, could even meet up if you're keen.

That sounds great. I will have a rack and rope so might be able to do some multi's with the extra gear. The dates you will be there will be perfect for me as the family things would have been tied over. If you can pm me your email i will get in touch. cheers..
