OT - Nati Cafe under new management Fri 31st

The Chinese appointed a dog as emperor, and the Romans appointed a horse as consul*, therefore it follows that I should be able to run a cafe. I'm taking on the Nati Cafe on a 6 month lease and a few things are going to change..

First we'll be OPEN SATURDAY NIGHT! For the first month we'll have $4 Coopers Green stubbies and $4 House wine on Saturday nights. Also the first Saturday of every month will be an Open Mic night.

Next there will be good wine and beers - about a dozen varieties of each, and all wines by the glass. I'll post the drinks list soon.

There'll be a shift in the food to using more local, organic and chemical free ingredients. We'll have freshly squeezed juices. Muffins on Friday, pancakes on Saturday and Devonshire Teas on Sunday (with amazing jam from Mason Clarke Preserving Co., Dimboola)

Last there will be the institution of SCRAPPY HOUR - 5-7pm Sunday - selling off all the remaining food, red wine and perishables cheap to fuel the long trip home to Melbourne, Adelaide or Horsham (see how I think of you ajf)

New hours:
Friday 7am - 11pm
Sat 8:30am - 11pm
Sun 8:30am - 7pm

I'll post under NatiCafe from now on for cafe related stuff.

Cheers!
Douglas

*Neither of these are strictly true. In fact they're not actually true at all.

Does the fine print on the menu say, '*May contain traces of dog and horse'?

Not at all. It says "This food may have been prepared using machinery that also prepares dogs and horses"

Is there no end to your talents ? Best of luck... if I can bear an 18 hour car trip with two kids we might see you one year !

The main reason I frequent the Nati cafe is to experience the unique and amazing service. Please tell me that you'll force Simey to work the odd shift now and then to maintain the character of the place?

I can't wait to hear what Simey's and Steve's new joint business initiative is going to be.

Fashion advice? Relationship Counselling? People Smuggling?

I'll happily relieve the cafe of any leftover red wine on my way home of a Sunday evening....

Good one Douglas. I guess this frees up Simey to become sports psychologist for the Nati Netball team and customer service adviser for the post office.

Whilst some might question Simey’s credentials to fill either of those roles I think he would be the first to admit his weakness in the ‘hospitality’ area and has in the past attested to this, I think, on this forum.

BUT, the fact is that despite the many doubters he did (eventually) turn the long touted dream into a reality and, together with Steve, deliver a new/additional dining experience for Natimuk.

With many small rural centres Australia-wide seeing a constant decline in local business activities the emergence of new ventures such as the Nati Café must be welcomed and it’s great to see Douglas stepping up to maintain the impetus.

So maybe Natimuk’s cuisine scene is about to witness a transition – Goatfest to goat’s cheese to Rogan Josh? ;-)

It can be a long trip home to Gareth's place if you have enough red wine..

Always interesting when simey. makes an appearance on my behalf.

Needless to say, I am pretty stoked that Douglas has put up his hand to have a crack at running the cafe. I have no doubt his injection of fresh ideas and enthusiasm will benefit everybody.

Of course this does free me up for other ventures such as 'Simey's Relationship Advice and Sex Counselling Service'. I will be operating out of the back of the cafe, so just knock on my door should you require particular help in this department.

I'm finding that there is so much to do just taking over an existing business, and it's only a tiny fraction of setting it up - well done to Simey and Steve for making it happen. It's been a huge asset to the town - as will be Simey's new service out the back.

That would have to be the back door, though.

ODH, I'll do my best to give you special personalised service, and if it's not up to scratch you can always go out the back and maybe Simey will service you.

The fcukin' spinach is wilted, why can't you buy fresh spinach?

Would you like to work in a cafe with a focus on local and organic food in a small town with a great community, excellent arts scene, powerful landscape and next to some of the best climbing in the world? I'm looking for a manager for Friday and Saturday nights, and there can be up to four shifts a week if you are interested, still leaving lots of time for art, climbing, exploring or drinking your own cups of tea. I am looking for someone friendly, concientious, community minded and mature. Knowledge and appreciation of good food, wine and beer would be great, and experience and relevant qualifications useful.

Check out naticafe.com and the Facebook page.
