Camping and/or accomodation in the Grampians

Hi everyone!
We are from Austria and will visit the Grampians in July. We´ll stay one month.
I´m trying to gather some info on where to stay.
Are there any nice campgrounds, backpacker hostels etc. that are recommendable?
I checked a few things, but they´re really expensive - where do all the climbers stay?
One thing: our budget is kinda low, so the cheaper the better.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Hi Flo.

Hopefully you will have a car, as the Grampians are large and the areas are spread out.

Most climbers camp.

There are cheap campgrounds run by the parks service, that have limited facilities (no showers). There are also some places to camp in the bush for free.

The Grampians are awesome, you will enjoy your trip.

Hi RNM.
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, we do have a car. Do you know any names of the campgrounds? If checked some accomodation sites, but anything, even the campgrounds, are quite fancy. Are there any campgrounds that have showers? We´re gonna be out there 1(!) month and we also got some girls on the team who are a bit more concerned about there hygene than the guys.

Really looking forward to seeing the Grampians - heard only the best about them.

I am not aware of any government Parks campground that have showers. However lots of the private campgrounds do, but they are expensive.

In Halls Gap there are hostels etc that let you pay just for a shower. The YHA hostel is nice, and offers this service. You might even like to stay a night or two.

On days off from climbing you might like to go into the towns nearby and have a shower and a swim at the pool.

Don't get hung up on the Grampians. Make sure you visit Mt Arapiles too (it is only one hour away). I notice a lot of overseas climbers focus on the Grampians at the expense of Arapiles and miss out on one of the great climbing areas of the world. Camping at Arapiles is cheap and convenient (no showers though, but easy enough to get a shower in nearby Natimuk - 10km away).

Mt. Stayplton Campsite(Northern Gramps) has showers (Well, buckets which you have to fill up with your OWN water) in a nice private stall if there girls are worried.

Enjoy yourself!

The two most popular climbing campsites are Mt Stapylton Campsite and Buandik campsite. Both are very simple and cheap (if you are sneaky you don't have to pay at all).

Stay at Mt Staypalton. If desperate for a shower you can always drive to the Horsham pub for dinner and for an extra 5 bucks they'll let you a shower and towel.

Horsham has many pubs (7 that I can think of offhand). At a guess you mean the Royal Hotel (cnr Firebrace and Wilson st)?

They also do a good parma on Tuesday nights: $15 or 2 for $20 with your choice of 10 different flavours.

Yes the Royal! My mistake. Yeah the Parmy deals are not bad.

It's July and it's cold and wet. Camping all the time could be wet and miserable.
Not knowing your budget here are a couple of suggestions that might be affordable even if only for occasional nights :
Mt Zero Log Cabins http://www.mtzerologcabins.com.au/ Really close to Mt Stapylton.
Also Happy Wanderer http://www.happywandererresort.com.au/ which is also fairly close to Stapylton (about 15 minutes drive) and a few different accommodation styles including campsites with power and ensuite.
