I'd like to hear from anybody who has climbed at Yellow Rock. This is the crag located at the end of Yellow Rock Road, overlooking the Nepean River. I don't mean the crag known as The Heights, which is off Hawkesbury Rd.
I'm aware the area is used for abseiling instruction; I want to hear from anybody who climbs there or anywhere nearby. Or if you have researched the area and reckon there isn't a skerric of worthwhile climbing, let me know that too.

Been there walked around and saw nothing of value...we did find an abandoned hydroponic setup in the creek in the valley though....but all the plants had been harvested :(

I went there years ago to help run an abseil course. Fom what I remeber there wasn't any thing that looked like decent climbing but that hadn't stopped someone from ring bolting a couple of short routes. Didn't want to climb anything and haven't been inspired to go back since....

Hydroponic?

Okay maybe Hydroponic wasn't the right term...had rows of empty pots and with a drip irrigation system going into them feeding from a tank pumped from the creek (pump was gone but all the irrigation was there)...hell of a setup ...they even leveled out a sizable area so it was all flat..with a rough shack for caretaker obviously to live...probably lucky they had harvested by the time saw it TBH.

On the way out to yellow rock along signals ridge rd I developed a small bouldering area with about 20-30 problems. Some of quality and some crap. Problems up to about V6 or so. Great for an after work dash. Might be able to dig up the very rudimentary guide I put together if u were interested or give u a tour one afternoon.

The bouldering area mentioned was actually established by me and a few friends and called the socialising club. I don't know why other people seem to be wanting to take our glory for this.
PS: in my experience everything I've climbed lower than wenty falls has been dissapointing and in retrospect I would have been better biting the bullet and heading further up the hill.
That said, I haven't done any routes in Glenbrook Gorge which does appear to be the pick of the bunch.

Exactly how is a boulder 'established'. By putting chalk on it?

I've also found most of the cliffs of the lower blue mts to be fairly scrappy, the better "sydney" stuff being elsewhere. Took a walk around glenbrook and didnt get very inspired to rush back to research the guide, despite 100+ recorded routes. Norton's basin was fairly scrappy too, but i'll wait for el nino to come home so i can cross the river to the better cliffs. Still, if you live nearby they are probably of interest.

Yeah lower blueys rock is soft...but sometimes I'd rather be walking or at a crag than sitting in a car heading up further up the hill

Young ozone is a checky little bugger!! All the gear and no idea and an attitude to go with it ;) you have much to learn young grasshopper.
Some crap, some ok stuff. Great for an arvo session after work if you live near by.
As to claiming your glory - I remember u crouched in the fetal position after having Scared yourself silly on one of the higher problems. Or is my many years of wisdom clouding my memory??
Off to the gorge with u.
