Tassie weather

As many of you may have noticed the weather appears a little odd this summer. Its raining every weekend in the bluies, its flooding in QLD and according to a mate there having amazing weather in patagonia.
Anyway whats tassie like at the moment? It hasn't made the news, but is it wetter or drier than usual?
I'm kind of planning a trip there and if the weather is the same as it has been on the mainland then I'm thinking a change of plans might be in order. Possibly hunting for diamonds in the congo?

I was in Tassie from December 22 to 31 visiting the parents and the weather was near perfect the whole time - maybe windy on a couple of days with temps in the early 20s. This was in the North of the State (Launceston)

I think it's unusual for this time of the year. My rule of thumb in Tassie - in my many years of living there and visiting there - is that the most stable weather is from around Oz Day long weekend (Jan 26) to early March.

I was in Hobart 21 to 27 December and had two 14 degree days, one 16, a couple of 18 and one of 21. Enough to give any climber wet dreams.

Be warned about the Tassie sun though - at 20 degrees it burns as savagely as 40 degrees does in most parts of the mainland.

Thanks guys the bom seems to be confirming that Tassie will be out of it. Even though the current weather patterns (higher than average rain) are likely to continue in eastern Oz till some time in march.

Time to put Mikl's wet sand stone theories into practise.

After all the recent flooding (including northern tas) do people think its a good idea to hit tassie for climbing in feb?

All the major areas that travellers would be into seem fine. Heaps of people climbing at tyndalls lately, tas peninsula been sweet. Freycinet been warm but alright, A posse up at ben cranking right now. So no reason not to come. Dont make decisions on what the media tell you!!

Cya soon!!
