Is there much climbing in Margaret River or anywhere else near Perth (within 4 hours drive).
Thinking of planning a trip up there on the 5 day long weekend at easter next year.
Is that a good time to go over there?
Can't seem to find to much info online. What kind of grades are there? Is it sport or Trad?

Plenty of climbing 4 hours from Perth for a 5 day trip. Easter is a great time to go. Check out the WA site :http://guide.climberswa.asn.au/
Margs has excellent mixed/trad single pitch routes at Willyabrup, with some classics in the 19 - 24 range. (just watch for strong onshore winds that can deposit salt on the cliff)
Bobs hollow is a steep limestone crag nearby with some fun single pitch sport routes. A beautiful walk in from Contos along the cape to cape track or 4wd (quite serious due to sharp boulders)
4 hours almost gets you to West Cape Howe near Albany, fantastic sea cliff climbing in a setting that makes Point Perp seem tame by comparison. One of the most dramatic climbing areas in Oz.
Kalbarri would be good that time of year, buts its a long way about 7 hours from memory ?
Don't under estimate the quality of climbing in WA, have fun.

Add an hour for West Cape Howe. MR region will involve the usual first trip time wasting but thereafter some of it is OK. I may be living there by then, PM me about a month prior to remind me.

Went to MR recently. Fantastic holiday destination. If you couldn't be arsed climbing then go walking, wine tasting, food tasting. Can recommend pitching a tent at Gracetown caravan park - the most lush, affordable CP ever! Climbed Willy (compact granite, mainly trad but completely topropable if you wanted) and Bobs (funky featured limestone that can be a little sharp in places). Both beautiful coastal settings. Definitely worthwhile.

There's also Wallcliffe and Golgotha down at Margs, both limestone sport crags.
There is ALOT of bouldering down at Margs! Run a google search of smug mug sites for bouldering and you'll see whats around, There is massive potential for more too.

I'm going to be travelling from Perth to Albany via Margaret River in early January. Will probably just get the south coast guide - does anyone know where in Sydney it's available or best to buy from CAWA site? Also, if anyone is going to be in the area and up for a climb I'm particularly keen on the Albany sea cliff stuff.

Shane Richardson is your man:

In the end I bought the guide (WA Rock which seems pretty conprehensive) off Simon Carter because Shane was out of town.
Availability is a bit stretched in the stores apparently. Also, I believe updated guides are due for release soon.

There's an updated guide (released by CAWA) out already, I haven't seen it yet. I'm unsure if it covers Margaret River climbing...
Shane is working on updating his guide/s.
