O.T. - Nowra area surf spots?

Hey guys,
I'm heading to Nowra at easter and was thinking of taking my board so I can surf on days off. Last time I was there we checked out a beach and it didn't look that impressive for surfing (I can't think of the name of the beach though!). Just wondering if anyone knows of any beaches near the Nowra area that may have a few fun waves?
Thanks
:-)

Drive N to KIllalea SRA to hit the beach at The Farm; the entrance is opposite Shellharbour Workers. Drive N again to just beyond Shellharbour for Windang Island. Both spots are on S facing beaches.

Endless options - north, south and east

In a nor easter - a couple of options include the farm, Gerroa, nth headland of werri, Black rock (your gonna have to find that yourself ;-) )

In a southerly - Sth end of Werri, Cullburra, bit furthur south is Green Island. If its really big (REALLY!!) then lobster reef can be amazing (another place you will have to do the legwork on)

All these spots have average to good to amazing waves on a fairly regular basis

Werri beach is a reasonably consistent beachbreak. Gerroa can be OK but inconsistent. There is a small reeef break which faces south at Gerroa (chips?) which can be fun. general beachbreaks at Shoalhaven heads, and at Culburra. South of Jervis is a plethora of waves: Sussux, bendara, Conjola, Bendalong. Have board, will travel.

If you want to combine the best of climbing and surfing then bring your board to Arapiles or the Grampians and scoot down to the Portland coast for a day or two. I finally convinced Adrian Laing to bring his board last year and he couldn't believe the quality waves he had all to himself. He was lamenting all the potentially good surfs he had missed during his previous visits to Arapiles.

As has been said there are endless options for very good waves.

Try here for a pretty good map of all the spots

Culburra gets decent waves and there're some very heavy and sharky reef breaks south of Huski too. I've had a couple of great surfs at Gerroa, good clean, safe (not rippy) beachies with a bit of punch still, but can get windy too. Great beachies at Werri, the northern section up under the cliffs near the river mouth can get some heavy barrels while there's a (crowded) consistent rip-bowl at the southern end of the beach (where the rip is funneling out after breaking down the point) while you can have some fun (don't stuff up the drop!) on the right day on the right hand point/reef break itself, this is off the rocks at the south end (high tide only).

I was thinking about combining my love of bouldering with my love of art and heading off to Paris next year but then I checked out the upcoming program at Horsham Regional Gallery and thought "Bugger that! Simey is right. Who needs Fontianbleau and the Louvre when you can have Araps and the HRG".

If you're into bouldering then you probably don't have the attention span for the Louvre, so HRG will suit you just fine.

Does HRG have a helmet policy aka 'club' style?
What do they think about retro-work?

Back on topic, also try the Bone Yard (just south of Kiama(?) As above posters have said so many options. The farm is really, really good when its working - needs good SE swell from memory.

Surfing at Nowra?

Boneyard is north of Kiama. Its a bit overrated but can be great - needs clean east swell and south wind. Its also tide dependant. Jones and Bombo beaches are good options either side of Boneyard. Werri as well as others have said.
Down south try to get to the swell magnet Bendalong - worth the drive. Also in the area in Manyana and Green Island (needs NE wind not south as stated before) and some nice reefs if you sniff around.
The Farm is great but gets crowded with bogans from Shellharbour.
The South Coast is great for surf but its a complex coastline that takes a while to work out.

I'd be taking your board with you when you go climbing. It wont last long on top of your roof racks at Thompsons Point.

Totally!! none of those thieving buggers are stealing my board! I was lucky enough to not be broken into last time I was there, but have heard how notorious that spot is and sure did see how the carpark ground is a combination of crushed rock and broken glass. Is it wrong of me to stick razor blades to the door handle of my car? ;-)

Only if you're forgetful.
