Hi, I am preparing a trip in NSW and I am looking for bouldering crags.
Several spots around Armidale look like interesting, is there other good places for bouldering in this state?

The most popular bouldering areas in the state are the extensive sandstone boulders and walls in the Sydney suburbs. Balkans, Fear Factory, Lindfield, Sissy, Villas, Crumbly - there are heaps of areas and thousands of problems. Just north of Sydney on the Central Coast are very aesthetic red sandstone caves and walls. South of Sydney, the popular sport crag of Nowra has heaps of good bouldering as well. Lots of very hard problems. Blue Mtns has a bit - not that great compared to Sydney area. Bungonia Gorge (near Goulburn) has amazing limestone boulders - and there is even some granite on the backside of the Blue Mtns. Some more info...

Sydney has a lot of bouldering and some of it is very good.
Get hold of a copy of "Sydney Bouldering" by Peter Balint.

Man, that REALLY needs updating. Now that Chris Webb and co have finished the Grampians guide, I wonder whether they could be convinced to give it a go?

I totally agree that it needs updating but it's still the best thing going in regards to bouldering in Sydney, especially if you're a visiting Euro boulderer.

Sydney would be the best place to hook up with people if you are by yourself.
Armidale is granite of varying quality. Wide range of grades of problems.
There is bouldering on the granite sea cliffs between port stephans and boat harbour. Never bouldered there but great location and worth a stop if you were driving down the coast.
Mt Kiera above wollongong, one of the best bouldering areas in australia and home to some fine awe inspiring lines.
Nowra has a few cave areas that have a smattering of very good problems.
Black Range, outside Captains Flat is a very good granite area with may established problems of all grades. Set in a beautiful forest with good camping.
There is also bouldering in the ACT.
